A product of the famous La Havre academy, the young defender has been attracting the attention of scouts from all over Europe with his performances for Marseille over the last few seasons.

The 21-year-old was again in fine nick for Marseille last season, and it has been claimed that West Ham and Liverpool did lodge enquiries for the Frenchman in recent weeks.

However, it seems Monaco are close to securing the defender’s signature as according to L’Equipe, the club reached an agreement in principle with Marseille for Mendy last night.

While no deal has been agreed officially yet, West Ham and Liverpool are expected to miss out on Mendy as Monaco are confident of getting the deal over the line soon.
