Roma are hoping that Southampton appoint Rudi Garcia as their new manager as it would save the Italian side a considerable chunk of money.

Garcia is a contender to take over at St Mary's after Ronald Koeman left to take the vacant job at Everton.

The former Lille boss is still being paid by Roma, according to Italian outlet Fantagazzetta, on a contract worth €2.5m per year.

Garcia was sacked by Roma earlier this year, but will continue to be paid until the end of his contract in June 2018, if he is not in alternative employment.

If Southampton appoint Garcia, Roma's financial burden will be lifted, freeing up extra money on the wage bill for the capital club to use elsewhere.
