Sunderland have made an £11m bid to sign former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko, according to Sky Italia.

Dzeko currently plies his trade in Italy's Serie A for Roma, who finished third in the Italian top flight last season.

He only joined Roma last year from the Citizens, but struggled to make an impact with the capital club and is now available for the right price; the 30-year-old scored ten goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.

Sunderland are claimed to have lodged an £11m bid for Dzeko, as they look to take the striker, who is no stranger to English football, to the Stadium of Light.

Dzeko himself has been offered a contract worth £140,000 per week in order to link up with Sam Allardyce's men.

Obstacles still remain however, as Roma are not minded to accept the £11m offer as they value Dzeko at closer to the £15m mark.

And Dzeko is claimed to either want to stay at Roma or go to one of Europe's biggest clubs, which may mean Sunderland have a tough time when it comes to convincing the striker to move.

Regardless of convincing Dzeko though, the Black Cats will also have to up their £11m bid.
