Roma are in pole position to sign Martin Skrtel from Liverpool and could also move for former Tottenham Hotspur defender Vedran Corluka.

The Giallorossi want to strengthen their defence this summer and Skrtel appears set for a likely departure from Anfield after slipping out of favour under Jurgen Klopp last season.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Roma are in pole position to sign Skrtel, but are not ready to stop at simply recruiting the Slovakia international.

Indeed, the Serie A side have been offered Corluka and are considering signing the defender.

Corluka currently plies his trade in Russia with Lokomotiv Moscow, having joined the club from Tottenham in 2012.

Roma may have to wait to push deals for both Skrtel and Corluka over the line however.

Corluka, who has won 90 caps for Croatia, is currently at Euro 2016 with his national team.

Skrtel meanwhile is also involved in the tournament in France, where he is turning out for Slovakia.
