Rangers head of performance preparation, Craig Flannigan, has insisted that the players will have double training sessions during the first three days of the week.

The Gers, who are back in the Scottish Premiership after winning the Championship, missed out on winning the Scottish Cup as Hibernian ran out 3-2 winners in the final.

Rangers have spent four weeks away from the club’s training ground, Auchenhowie, and began preparations for the upcoming Premiership campaign on Saturday.

Flannigan has insisted that players will have double training sessions during the first three days of the week.

He told the official Rangers website: “We will train with double sessions for the first three days of this week, progressively getting more intense, and then have a rest day on Thursday before training Friday and Saturday and travel to the States on Monday for phase two of pre-season.

“We’ll have 10 days out there before coming back and we are straight into the League Cup and subsequently the league campaign.

“It’s certainly a lot earlier in terms of playing competitive matches, so we are just going to have to treat it as preparatory for the league, and that’s not placing less significance on the cup, but with the timeframe and the players only having a four-week off-season, we didn’t really want to change our schedule too much.”

The Ibrox based club will travel to America on Monday and are expected to return on 8th July. Eight days later, the Gers will play their first competitive game, away to Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup group stages.

The Glasgow based side’s trip to America will see them travel to Charleston, South Carolina for a training camp which includes a friendly encounter against Charleston Battery on 6th July.
