Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has indicated that Joe Allen’s salary won’t be an issue for the club if he wants to sign the Liverpool midfielder this summer.

Allen was one of the players Rodgers raided Swansea for when he became the Liverpool boss in 2012, and there has been speculation that he could do the same as Celtic manager this time around.

However, it has been suggested that the Welshman’s salary at Anfield is out of reach for Celtic, and the Bhoys might not be able to afford to sign the midfielder because of a self-imposed wage cap.

But Rodgers rubbished claims that Celtic have a wage cap in place when it comes to their players and insisted that if he wanted a player with a higher salary, the club would support him.

When asked whether Celtic would be able to afford a player with a higher salary, the manager was quoted as saying the Herald Scotland: “Yes, absolutely. That’s the case.”

He was coy on the possibility of signing Allen, but he said: "Joe is a wonderful player. I always look at all my former players.”

Celtic are yet to make any significant additions to their squad this summer, but are expected to get going in the transfer market in the coming days and weeks.
