Chelsea have confirmed that they have extended Charly Musonda’s loan stay at Real Betis to cover the 2016/17 season.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder is one of the highly rated talents to come out of the Chelsea academy in recent years and won the Under-21 Premier League, the UEFA Youth League and the FA Youth Cup with the club’s youth sides over the last few seasons.

Chelsea loaned out Musonda to Real Betis in the January transfer window for the latter half of last season, and the youngster was a constant in the Spanish side's first team plans, with 16 appearances to his name.

Betis have been willing to extend his loan stay for the rest of next season, and they have finally agreed a deal to keep Musonda at the club for the 2016/17 campaign.

Chelsea feel Musonda might have struggled to break into the first team next season under Antonio Conte and believe it will serve the Belgian well if he spends one more year in Spain, playing regular first team football.

The Belgian will be managed by former Blue Gus Poyet at Betis after he was appointed as their new coach last month.

Musonda has been a prolific player for Belgium at youth level and has already earned five caps for their Under-21 side.
