Crotone president Raffaele Vrenna is keen to sign Mario Balotelli this summer, and is confident that his club can revive the Italian striker’s rapidly descending career.

After a frustrating season at Liverpool, the mercurial forward was loaned out to AC Milan last summer, but Balotelli did little of note at the San Siro and was reduced to being a bit part player towards the end of the season.

The Rossoneri are in no mood to retain him and Balotelli is due to report for pre-season training with Liverpool next month, but it is widely believed that the forward has no future at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp.

Italian super agent Mino Raiola has been scrambling to find a new club for his troubled client and he could find help at newly promoted Serie A side Crotone, who are keen to sign Balotelli.

Club president Vrenna feels a move to Crotone could be beneficial for the 25-year-old striker, as they have a reputation for restoring and reviving the careers of struggling footballers.

“Balotelli is a great champion but I think many of the football world would agree that he hasn’t been at his best in recent years”, the Crotone president told Premium Sport.

“I think a move to Crotone would be good for him – it would be like a sort of clinic, to help him.

“The idea of moving for Balotelli came about because at Crotone, we have helped revive many players who have gone on to return to the highest levels.

“Just look at the Italy squad at the European Championship – it has six players who played for us in it.”

Balotelli is on high wages at Liverpool and it remains to be seen whether the striker is ready to take a massive pay cut to move to Crotone this summer.
