Rangers manager Mark Warburton has claimed that new acquisition Niko Kranjcar has a lot of hunger for the game.

31-year-old Kranjcar, who has joined as a free agent after a brief spell with New York Cosmos, has previously plied his trade with Portsmouth and Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, so is no stranger to the British game.

The Croatian has penned a two-year deal at Ibrox and is Rangers' sixth capture of the summer following the signings of Joey Barton, Jordan Rossiter, Clint Hill, Matt Crooks and Josh Windass.

And Warburton has claimed that Kranjcar still has a lot of hunger for the game despite the fact that he is 31 years old.

He told the official Rangers website: “We are getting a 31-year-old player who has a real appetite for the game still.

“He has 81 caps for Croatia which a tremendous record, and you saw his quality throughout the Premier League days with Portsmouth and Tottenham.

“I went to see Niko in New York and it was important for me to hear how hungry he is – and I was delighted with that response.

“He is a player who has so much to offer, and I think Ibrox and Rangers gives him a fantastic stage to express the quality he has.

“He is a very technically gifted player, a player who sees a pass and one that can open up defences with the quality he possesses.

“He gives us something different – we have some tremendous players in that squad but we are always looking for variety, and he has that.”

Kranjcar has represented the Croatian national team 81 times, finding the back of the net as many as 16 times. The midfielder is a product of the Dinamo Zagreb youth academy.

Rangers, who will compete in the Scottish Premiership again next season, claimed the Championship title to win promotion, but missed out on winning the Scottish Cup as they were ousted 3-2 by Hibernian in the final.
