Rangers striker Kenny Miller is ready to welcome the competition for places in the squad that the new signings will bring next season.

While Rangers won the Scottish Championship to earn promotion to the top tier last season, the club ended the 20151/16 campaign on a sour note.

They limped over the line in the league and lost the Scottish Cup final to Hibernian, as the limitations of their thin squad came to the fore towards the end of the season.

Mark Warburton has worked hard to strengthen his squad, and has already signed six new players, with Joey Barton, Clint Hill and Niko Kranjcar being the big name additions.

The Rangers boss is planning to add three more players in the summer, and is confident that his recruitment will not only add depth to his squad, but increase the competition for places in the team.

And Miller feels that a club of Rangers’ stature should have their players fighting and working hard to hold on to their place in the starting eleven and the squad.

When asked about an increased competition for places next season at Rangers, the striker said in a press conference: “I think it’s huge.

“At a football club like ours, it should be that way. Nobody should be guaranteed or take that starting slot on a Saturday for granted.

“You need to earn that and you should be pushed in every game of the season for your jersey.

“You earn that right through your performances and your consistency through the season, and earn your place in the starting eleven.”

The veteran forward played a key role in a successful season for Rangers last time around and scored 21 goals in all competitions for the club.
