Veteran striker Kenny Miller has insisted that Rangers have no other goal but to win the Scottish Premiership next season and he feels confident about their chances of doing so.

Since being forced to start at the bottom of the Scottish league system in 2012 following their liquidation, Rangers have fought back and earned they spot back in the top tier by winning the Championship last season.

While many are hoping Mark Warburton’s men can challenge Celtic’s hegemony in Scottish football, the Rangers boss has been cautious about his team’s chances next season.

However, Rangers have managed to rope in six new players this summer, including big names like Joey Barton, Clint Hill and Niko Kranjcar and have given hope to their fans ahead of the new campaign.

While the quality of their recruitment gives confidence to Miller, the striker stressed that the goal for Rangers has always been to win the league and not just consolidate their position in the top tier.

The 36-year-old said in a press conference: “With the squad last year, we were in a good place.

“With the right additions in the right positions, then I have always said we will have the opportunity to challenge this year.

“There is no other goal, there is no case of consolidation, no case of top six or European football- winning the league is the goal.

“The signings we have made, the work we have done so far, there is a real sign that is going to be the case.”

Rangers will open their Premiership campaign with a home game against Hamilton at Ibrox on the opening day of the season.
