Leeds United defender Giuseppe Bellusci remains a top target for Serie A side Empoli this summer, but the club are having difficulty persuading Whites supremo Massimo Cellino to accept an offer for the player.

Bellusci fell out of favour at Leeds towards the end of the season under Steve Evans, but his fortunes may be improved under new head coach Garry Monk.

Empoli want to take the centre-back back to his homeland this summer, however Cellino has not yet accepted the offer they have put forward.

Giovanni Martusciello, Empoli's coach, is still hoping that the path towards a deal for Bellusci can be smoothed out.

"I am aware of Bellusci's situation", the coach explained to Sky Italia.

"I hope, however, that these difficulties can be overcome."

Bellusci, 26, has become a controversial figure with the Leeds faithful and has often been guilty of making defensive errors which have cost the Whites dearly.

Leeds snapped Bellusci up from Italian side Catania in 2014.

He spent last term battling Liam Cooper and Sol Bamba for a spot in the heart of the Yorkshire club's defence and played his part in a side that finished in 13th spot in the Championship.
