Everton have joined the chase for Napoli and Stoke City target Axel Witsel, who has also been linked with a move to Roma.

The 27-year-old midfielder is expected to leave Zenit Saint Petersburg this summer, and the Russian outfit are also said to be keen to sell the player, whose contract expires at the end of next season.




Stoke have already slapped in a bid for the Belgian, but the midfielder is said to be keener to reunite with his former manager Luciano Spalletti at Roma ahead of next season.

Serie A giants Napoli also met his father yesterday to discuss a potential transfer and are expected to hold further talks in the days to come, but it has been claimed another Premier League outfit have joined the queue for the Belgian.
 


According to Sky Italia, Everton have joined the race for Witsel’s signature, and are said to be in pole position to sign the player in the coming months.

Zenit are asking for a fee of around €25m for the player, and Witsel’s salary demands are also said to be around the €3.5m to €4m region.

Napoli are pushing to bring the player to the San Paolo, but the Premier League’s greater financial strength is said to have pushed Everton to the top of the chasing pack for the Belgian.
