Leeds United are expected to face competition for Manchester United striker Ashley Fletcher’s signature this summer, but have been tipped to have a good chance of signing him.

The 20-year-old striker has knocked back a contract offer from Manchester United in recent days and is expected to leave the club at the end of the month, when his current deal expires.

Fletcher caught the attention of Leeds chairman Massimo Cellino during the playoff final for Barnsley at Wembley last month, and the Italian is keen to bring the forward to Elland Road this summer.

His rejection of Manchester United’s contract offer has given a fillip to Leeds, who are working in the background in order to sign Fletcher, but they are expected to face competition for his signature.

He is almost certainly on his way out of Old Trafford this summer and while Leeds will face competition for Fletcher, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post they have a good chance of winning the race.

Fletcher has been linked with a move to Championship side Bristol City; they are currently under the tutelage of former Barnsley manager Lee Johnson, who signed the striker during his time at Oakwell.

A product of the Manchester United academy, Fletcher earned plaudits for his performances at youth level and has been capped by England Under-20s.
