Manchester United have expressed interest in in-demand Belgium midfielder Axel Witsel and are considering a bid, it has been claimed.

Witsel currently turns out at club level for Zenit St. Petersburg in Russia, but is expected to be on the move this summer and has been linked with a number of sides.




He is of interest to Stoke City and the Potters are claimed to have already put in a bid for Witsel, while he also has interest from Serie A giants Roma, Napoli and Juventus. Recently, Everton joined the chase under new manager Ronald Koeman.

Now another side can be added to the mix in the shape of Manchester United, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato.
 


The Red Devils have expressed an interest in Witsel and are now pondering making a move to sign the 27-year-old.

Witsel is currently at the European Championship with Belgium and may not see his future resolved until after the tournament.

He started his career at Belgian side Standard Liege, while he then left his homeland for Portugal to link up with Benfica in 2011.

Zenit activated Witsel's release clause with Benfica in 2012, paying €40m to sign the midfielder.
