Celtic assistant boss Chris Davies has revealed that the coaching staff at the club have been "pleasantly surprised" by the attitude of the players in pre-season training.

It has been all change for the Bhoys on the coaching staff front following Brendan Rodgers' appointment as manager after Ronny Deila left the club.

Rodgers and Davies have been putting the players through their paces, while they will now continue their pre-season work as Celtic jet off to Slovenia for their pre-season tour.

And Davies is so far happy with what he has seen from the players, with their attitude winning him over.

He told reporters at Glasgow airport ahead of the squad's departure: "The attitude and mentality of the players has been brilliant. We've been pleasantly surprised about that.

"We've had a really good week. The manager is happy, I'm happy and we are looking forward now to going in to the camp", Davies continued.

The assistant also insisted that the coaching staff are not afraid to hand young players a chance to impress if their ability merits it – and opportunities will be available over the course of pre-season.

"The young lads are all going to get a chance. If you are good enough, you are old enough and that will be our focus."
