Celtic assistant manager Chris Davies insists that the only thing that matters for manager Brendan Rodgers and his coaching staff at present is the football fitness and physical condition of the players.

The Bhoys headed out for their pre-season preparations to Slovenia earlier today as they prepare for the Champions League qualifiers next month.

The tour will include a two-week training camp during which they will take part in four games as they hope to build match fitness ahead of the start of the new season.

The young assistant manager insists that more than anything else what the pre-season camp will do will be to help them assess the football fitness and physical condition of the players, as the need of the hour is to convey the ideas of the newly appointed manager on to the team.

“We’ve had a good week’s training and had double sessions at times. We’ve had about 10 sessions and another this morning, and now we’re off to camp for the qualifiers", Davies said at Glasgow Airport before departing.

“The first competitive game is in two weeks time so we’re really focused to make sure we can fast-track some of our ideas and some of our tactical ideas that we’ve got for the team to get them in early.

“Right now it’s about football fitness and the physical condition of the players but we know we need to get some of our ideas in quickly because we start very soon.”

The Scottish champions are yet to know about their Champions League second qualifying round opponents, which will be either Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar or Flora Tallinn of Estonia.
