Former Leeds United striker Mirco Antenucci, who has received an offer from Championship side Reading, could sign for Italian outfit SPAL by the end of the week.

Antenucci joined Leeds in 2014 and finished as the club's top scorer in his first season at Elland Road; he was the club's second highest scorer last season, but Leeds still opted against offering him a new contract.

The striker has been linked with a number of clubs, including several in England and a clutch in his homeland, as he weighs up his next move.

It appears SPAL, who won promotion to Serie B last season, have moved into pole position and they could soon reach an agreement with Antenucci.

According to Italian broadcaster Sportitalia, SPAL are due to hold discussions with Antenucci and could complete his signing by the end of the week.

SPAL are presently in pole position in the chase for the former Leeds man, who may favour a return to his homeland over continuing his adventures in England.

His two-year spell with Leeds is the only occasion Antenucci has plied his trade outside Italy so far in his career.
