Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has insisted that each player in the squad will get an opportunity to impress him during pre-season preparations.

The 37-year-old former Swansea boss took a good look at his new team over the weekend as the majority of the Leeds players returned for pre-season training with the club.

The new Leeds boss is expected to dip his hands in the transfer market for players, and the club are already in talks to sign a few new fresh faces, but Monk stressed that the current squad will get their opportunity to impress.

Regardless of their status in the squad last season, the former Swansea boss feels it is a good opportunity for the players to go along with his plan for the club and force their way into his thinking during pre-season.

The Leeds boss told LUTV: “Every player has a clean slate.

“Look we don’t have the biggest squad right now but all of them have the opportunity to show what they can do, and understand the plan I have in place and work with me in understanding it.

“And hopefully the opportunity to be in the team; you have to give the players that.”

Leeds are currently scheduled to head to Dublin for pre-season friendlies against Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers later this month, before taking on League One side Peterborough on 23rd July.
