Garry Monk has admitted that the Leeds United squad needs strengthening in certain areas in the summer, and revealed that he has already discussed a few targets with the club.

Leeds sacked Steve Evans and roped the 37-year-old former Swansea boss as their new manager at the end of last season and are hoping to compete for a playoff spot in the Championship next term.

The majority of the Leeds players have returned for pre-season training with the club, and the new manager has already taken his first few sessions with his squad at Thorp Arch.

And despite being keen to provide opportunities to his current set of players, the Englishman admits that the squad needs strengthening in certain areas; Leeds have already signed Marcus Antonsson from Kalmar.

He also added that he has discussed certain transfer targets with Leeds and is confident the club hierarchy are working hard to replenish the squad.

Monk told LUTV: “Of course the club are working really hard to try and help strengthen the squad, which it does need.

“We have talked about certain targets for certain areas of the squad that we have here, so that’s good.

“The club will be working hard to get them done sooner.”

Leeds will open their 2016/17 Championship campaign with an away trip to Queens Park Rangers on the first day of the season.
