Patrick Roberts has revealed he was shocked when he heard Moussa Dembele had signed a four-year deal with Celtic, being taken by surprise by the news.

The winger played alongside Dembele in the youth ranks at Fulham and will now rekindle his relationship on the pitch with the French striker at Paradise.

Dembele will cost Celtic a training fee of £500,000 following the expiry of his contract with Fulham and the Bhoys have pulled off a coup signing the Frenchman given interest in his services from Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Roberts knew Dembele had been linked with Celtic, however the striker only told his former Fulham team-mate when he had put pen to paper, leaving Roberts shocked.

"I played with him for many, many years when we were in the youth team at Fulham", Roberts told Celtic TV.

"I know what he's capable of and he knows what I'm capable of so maybe that swayed him a bit.

"I asked him if he was coming because of the reports", he explained.

"He left it until today and when I was at training I came back and he said 'yes, I signed', so it was a shock.

"But it's good to have him here in the squad."

Roberts is in no doubt about what Dembele will bring to the table for the Scottish champions.

"He's very strong, quick and scores a lot of goals."

Dembele netted 17 goals for Fulham last season, despite his side's struggles in the lower reaches of the Championship.

He has been handed the number 10 shirt at Celtic.
