Former Leeds United striker Mirco Antenucci has put pen to paper on a contract with newly promoted Serie B side SPAL.

Antenucci top scored for Leeds in the 2014/15 season, while he finished as the club's second highest scorer last term. However, his efforts were not enough to convince the Whites to offer him a new contract.

The Italian had interest from a number of clubs, including Championship side Reading, but he has chosen to head back to his homeland.

Antenucci has signed a two-year deal with an option for a further year at northern Italian outfit SPAL.

SPAL are delighted with his arrival and explained that Antenucci "strongly wanted to wear the SPAL shirt".

The striker will now bid to bring goals to the club as they look to make an impact in Serie B in the forthcoming season.

Antenucci is due to turn 32 in September and his deal at SPAL could see him end his career at the club.
