Leeds United striker Chris Wood admits that new head coach Garry Monk has made a positive first impression on his squad in the early days of pre-season.

A number of Leeds players returned to pre-season training over the last few days, and Monk has outlined his plans in the early days of training ahead of the new season.

Wood, who was Leeds’ top scorer last season, is also one of the players who returned to Thorp Arch in recent days and the striker admits that the first few sessions under Monk have been good.

The striker is impressed with the conviction the new Leeds boss has shown in his ideas about the squad and how he wants the club to run, and admits that it already feels like a step up for the Whites.

Wood told LUTV: “We have had a couple of meetings, but he just seems like a guy who knows his stuff.

“[He] knows how he wants this club to be run and how he is going to do that.

“You can see straightaway that it’s a step up on a level, and we are enjoying it and we like what we have seen.”

Wood will be keen to impress Monk during pre-season and maintain his position as the club’s number one striker by the time the 2016/17 campaign starts in August.
