Raphael Varane is considering leaving European champions Real Madrid this summer, according to Spanish daily El Confidencial.

While the 23-year-old defender has become a crucial part of the Real Madrid squad over the years, he is still struggling to become a certain starter, and keeps being overlooked for big games.

The Frenchman clocked up 26 appearances for the club in La Liga last season but when it came to the business end of the Champions League, he warmed the bench in the semi-final tie against Manchester City and an injury kept him out of the final against Atletico Madrid.

Coach Zinedine Zidane still feels Varane has the ability to become a defensive stalwart for Real Madrid in the future, but it seems he is ready to leave the club this summer.

The French international is not keen to play one more season as the third choice centre half at the Bernabeu, and it has been claimed that Real Madrid are also coming round to the idea of letting the player go.
