Rangers youngster Tom Walsh feels next season is going to be make or break for him at Ibrox as he looks to impress the club and earn a new long term contract.

The 19-year-old midfielder has so far made 13 senior appearances for the Gers, but was loaned out to Dumbarton for the second half of last season to help him earn more first team minutes.

Walsh has joined the rest of his team-mates for Rangers’ pre-season preparations, and admits that with his contract expiring at the end of next season, he needs to put on a good showing for Gers during the 2016/17 campaign.

The midfielder is confident that Mark Warburton will offer him opportunities to impress during pre-season despite the influx of big names such as Joey Barton and Niko Kranjcar this summer.

“This is a make or break year for me”, Walsh told the Herald Scotland.

“I have one year left on my contract. I would love to earn another one and hopefully it’s here. I know it’s going to be tough with a lot of big names and good players coming in.

“I’ve just got to do my best and hopefully it’s good enough to catch the manager’s eye.

“When he told me I was going out on loan to Dumbarton he told me to stay fit and come back to pre-season and then it would be a level playing field.

"You’ve got to take that on-board and go and show you should be involved.”

Walsh made 16 appearances for Dumbarton during his loan stint, and is also a Scotland Under-19 international.
