Bournemouth have confirmed the signature of Chelsea youngster Nathan Ake on a season-long loan deal.

The Dutchman spent the last season on loan at Watford and amassed 24 Premier League appearances under his belt at Vicarage Road before returning to his parent club this summer.

A versatile performer, Ake is proficient both as a central defender and a left-back, and Eddie Howe’s side are pleased to secure the 21-year-old’s services for the 2016/17 season.

Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake said in a statement on the club’s official website: “We are delighted to welcome Nathan to AFC Bournemouth.

“For a player of his age he already has great experience in the Premier League and we believe he will bring a lot to our squad.

“He is an international player with great pedigree, so we are really excited to have him join us for the upcoming season.”

Ake joined the Chelsea academy from Feyenoord in 2011, and was a key member of the club’s youth sides before enjoying loan stints at Reading and Watford respectively.

He has also amassed 12 senior appearances for Chelsea and has a contract until 2020 with the Blues.

The 21-year-old defender is a regular member of the Netherlands Under-21 side too.
