Rangers star Andy Halliday has claimed the Gers have a side that are capable of winning tough games and can challenge for the title next season.

Halliday made 48 appearances in all competitions for Mark Warburton’s men last season, scoring ten times in the process.

A defensive midfielder by trade, Halliday joined the Glasgow based club from English third division side Bradford on a free transfer, after being on the books at Middlesbrough for five years.

Rangers open their Premiership campaign on 6th August at home to Hamilton and will face Celtic on 10th September, along with playing Aberdeen away on the 24th of the same month.

Halliday, who was a key part of the title winning side last season, has said that Rangers have a side that is capable enough of winning tough matches and challenging for the title next season.

He told the official Rangers website: “It’s going to be a tough season, but we are more than ready. It’s what it’s all about and it’s what it means to be a Rangers player.

“Our squad is going to be more capable for these tough games than it was last year, and we’ve brought in some good additions so far.

“When you look at that Celtic game and the Scottish Cup final, out of a possible seven players we only had five on the bench, with one being a goalkeeper and the other being a 17 year-old.

“Everyone is going to need to stand up and be counted this year, and there is no reason why we can’t win the title.”

Rangers, who won the Scottish Championship last season and will return to the Scottish Premiership next season, have already made a host of signings this summer.

The Teddy Bears have already signed Joey Barton on a free transfer, apart from having acquired the services of former Tottenham star Niko Kranjcar, former Queens Park Rangers defender Clint Hill and former Liverpool youngster Jordan Rossiter.
