Andy Halliday has explained he is not about to easily give up his place in the Rangers team, despite new signings this summer bringing in extra competition.

Halliday, who is a defensive midfielder by trade but can also play on the left of the midfield as well, made 44 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring eight times.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has been busy in the transfer market this summer, with recruitment centering on midfield, with Joey Barton and Jordan Rossiter notable arrivals, increasing the competition for a place.

However, Halliday insists that he is not going to duck the challenge and will fight to make sure he keeps his spot in the team. Indeed, the midfielder explained he is relishing the challenge which the new signings bring.

The midfielder is hoping to strike up a partnership with Barton and told the official Rangers site “I am looking forward to playing with him, and we have a number of midfielders so the competition for places is healthy, but that’s what you have got to expect at a club like Rangers.
