Real Madrid are considering making a summer swoop for Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny, with Raphael Varane potentially on his way out of the club.

Varane is said to be unwilling to remain third choice defender at Real Madrid and is considering leaving the club during the transfer window, with sides such as Manchester United and Bayern Munich interested in him.

Real Madrid are also reportedly considering parting ways with the 23-year-old Frenchman and it has been claimed that they have already identified a possible replacement for Varane.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Los Blancos have identified Arsenal defender Koscielny as a possible summer transfer target and are considering making a move for him in the coming months.

The 30-year-old has been rock at the back for Arsene Wenger’s team in recent seasons and is also a first choice centre half in the France national team under Didier Deschamps.

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is a big fan of his countryman, and while he might prefer to hold on to Varane, he is more than willing to see Koscielny join Los Blancos as his compatriot’s replacement.

The Frenchman has a contract until 2019 with Arsenal and the Gunners are unlikely to be keen to consider offers for a player who has been an important part of their first team over the last few seasons.

Koscielny has clocked up 248 appearances for the club since joining Arsenal from Lorient in 2010.
