Roma have reached a verbal agreement with Pablo Zabaleta over a summer move but are waiting for Manchester City to give their approval to the transfer.

Signing a full-back has been a priority for the Giallorossi, and the veteran Argentine defender has long been identified by the Roma hierarchy as their top target.

The Serie A giants have been in talks with the player’s representatives over a summer move for the last few weeks, and it seems they have reached an understanding in recent days.

It has been claimed that Zabaleta has verbally agreed to commit to Roma’s proposal, but according to Sky Italia, the player and the club are waiting for Manchester City to agree to a move.

Roma are hoping to hold talks with the Citizens hierarchy soon to reach an agreement for Zabaleta, and are keen to get the deal over the line as soon as possible.

Manchester City are unlikely to agree to a transfer as long as they have not signed a replacement for the 31-year-old, therefore, Roma might have to wait a little longer.

Another reason for Roma’s insistence on getting the deal done soon is that they are aware Inter Milan are also interested in the Argentine, and the pull of Roberto Mancini could turn the tide towards the Nerazzurri.

Since joining Manchester City from Espanyol in 2008, Zabaleta has made 301 appearances for them and has a year left on his contract with the club.
