Boyhood Liverpool fan Kristoffer Ajer is already impressed with new Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers and says he followed the tactician closely during his time in charge at Anfield.

The Norwegian midfielder agreed a deal to move to Celtic earlier this year when countryman Ronny Deila was in charge at Parkhead. However, Deila left at the end of the season and Celtic turned to former Liverpool boss Rodgers.

Now Ajer is working with Rodgers at Celtic, hoping to catch his eye in pre-season, and the 18-year-old is already impressed with what he has seen from the Northern Irishman.

"It's a boy's dream come true when you come to a big club with such great expectations. Celtic have shown with the appointment of Brendan Rodgers, who is a crazy good manager, that the ambitions are big", Ajer explained to Norwegian daily VG.

"He has taught me a lot already. It has been an amazingly nice week", Ajer continued.

"I have already said that I followed him [Rodgers] closely, I watched the Liverpool documentary and I saw how he bets on young players.

"At the meeting we had just before the first training session he made it clear what he expects.

"I am originally a Liverpool fan, but now I am a Celtic fan."

Ajer will want to make a good impression on Celtic's pre-season trip – the Bhoys are currently on tour in Slovenia as they build up their fitness and match sharpness ahead of the Champions League qualifying rounds.

Rodgers regularly handed young players a chance to impress during his spell in charge of Liverpool and Ajer will be keen to join the list of those to have progressed under the ex-Swansea manager.
