Marseille coach Franck Passi has been in touch with Swansea City striker Bafetimbi Gomis in an effort to persuade him to replace Michy Batshuayi at the French giants.

Batshuayi is being sold by Marseille to Chelsea for €40m, as the Ligue 1 side aim to plug a financial black hole ahead of the new season.

Now Marseille are looking for a replacement and Passi has his heart set on former Lyon striker Gomis.

According to French daily La Provence, Passi has been trying to convince Gomis that moving to the Stade Velodrome would be a good choice this summer.

Marseille though are at present only looking to loan the 30-year-old, rather than buying him outright.

The French giants do not look set to have a free run at the Swansea star either as Sam Allardyce's Sunderland have been linked with making a move to take him to the Stadium of Light.

It remains to be seen whether Gomis sees his future in the Premier League or is ready to return to Ligue 1.
