Leeds United could appoint the club's former sporting director Nicola Salerno to his old role at the club, it has been claimed.

Salerno has been working hard for Premier League side Watford, the club he joined after leaving his position as sporting director at Elland Road.




Leeds supremo Massimo Cellino is keen to bring in another sporting director, but has so far come up short.

According to Italian broadcaster Sportitalia, Salerno could return to his former job at Leeds this summer.
 


The sporting director was responsible for driving through a number of deals from Italian clubs when last at Leeds and his final job at the club was to complete a permanent move for Sol Bamba to Elland Road.

Salerno would be able to slot into familar surroundings with ease, while he also enjoys a good working relationship with Cellino.

Cellino is keen for Leeds to challenge for a playoff spot in the Championship as a minimum requirement next season.
