Former Manchester City hitman Edin Dzeko has rejected the chance to join Sunderland this summer and wants to continue at Roma.

Sam Allardyce was keen to take the Bosnian back to the Premier League with Sunderland, and the Black Cats made an offer to sign the forward from Roma.

However, according to Sky Italia, Dzeko rejected the opportunity to move back to England with the Wearside outfit, and wants to continue playing his football at the Stadio Olimpico.

The 30-year-old forward joined Roma from Manchester City last summer, and scored 10 goals in his first season at the club, but towards the end of the campaign he lost his starting spot.

Despite a difficult end to the 2016/17 season, Dzeko wants to continue at Roma and has told the club hierarchy about his intentions, after rejecting an offer from Sunderland.

The forward scored 72 goals during his time at Manchester City and won two Premier League titles, amongst other honours, at the Etihad.

Allardyce will now look at other options as he looks to provide a strike partner for Jermain Defoe at the Stadium of Light.
