Empoli are close to reaching an agreement with Leeds United for the transfer of defender Giuseppe Bellusci, according to Sky Italia.

The defender seems to be on his way out of Leeds United and sealing a return to Italy this summer, with Empoli pushing to agree a deal with the Yorkshire giants to get the switch over the line.

The Serie A outfit’s offer was reportedly around €300,000 less than Leeds’ valuation of the 26-year-old Italian, but it seems they are edging closer towards an agreement, which will see the Italian side pay a fee to loan the centre-back.

It has been claimed that the two clubs have moved closer towards agreeing a deal for Bellusci, and Empoli could close out a deal to sign the defender sooner rather than later.

The central defender has been a figure of controversy since his arrival at Elland Road in 2014, but has made 61 appearances for the club over the last two seasons.

Towards the end of the 2015/16 campaign, Bellusci endured criticism for his lapses, which cost Leeds points, and was even dropped from the squad by former head coach Steve Evans.

The Italian still has two years left on his contract, but it seems he will continue his career in the familiar climes of Italy at Empoli, who finished tenth in Serie A last season.
