Former Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has opened up about the relationship he shared with his former boss Jurgen Klopp.

The Germany and Bayern Munich defender was a crucial cog in Klopp’s Dortmund side that won two Bundesliga titles and reached the Champions League final in the 2012/13 season.

Klopp eventually departed Dortmund at the end of the 2014/15 campaign, and Hummels followed a year later when he agreed to join German champions Bayern Munich this summer.

Speaking about his relationship with his managers, he revealed that he shared an intense relationship with the current Liverpool boss and admits that they often took part in shouting matches.

However Hummels, who compared Klopp with Germany coach Joachim Low, insisted that despite their quarrels he shared a good rapport with the current Liverpool boss until the end.

Hummels told L’Equipe: “You can always have a chat with the coach and raise your voice.

“With [Joachim] Low less so, but with Klopp it was very intense as there was a lot of emotion. We quarreled, but an hour later we spoke again and we got on well again.

“It was a great relationship.”

Klopp’s passion for the game is clearly visible with his antics on the touchline as Liverpool manager, and he is believed to have taken very little time to bond with his charges at Anfield after joining the club last October.
