Ex-striker James Beattie has joined Leeds United as the club's new first team coach.

Head coach Garry Monk has been looking to fill the position and has turned to the former Everton striker, who has already joined the Whites for pre-season training.

Beattie worked with Monk and Leeds assistant Pep Clotet at Swansea City and now reunites with the duo at Elland Road, confident he can make a difference.

The 38-year-old is delighted to have linked up with the Whites and believes that Monk, Clotet and himself bring a high level of training and coaching to the Yorkshire giants.

"I’m delighted to be here", Beattie explained to the club's official site.

"It’s a huge club and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead.

"I’ve worked with Garry and Pep before and I know how they work with the high standards and the values that they’ll bring to the club.

"This club has got untold potential to be whatever it wants to be, and we see that as a challenge", he continued.

"I feel that the level of training and coaching we can bring to the club is of a very high standard."

Beattie is also relishing the challenge of helping to develop Leeds' talented young players and guiding them to play the way head coach Monk desires.

"We’ve got a young squad that we are looking forward to developing, coaching and providing guidance.

"We need to get them playing in the right way and try to help everyone create something really special."

The Whites are aiming high this season, with a top six playoff spot the minimum requirement which has been laid down by supremo Massimo Cellino.
