Manchester United youngster Ashley Fletcher is expected to undergo a medical with West Ham United later today as the Hammers close in on winning the race for his signature, beating off competition from Leeds United.

Fletcher is out of contract at Old Trafford this summer and has rejected a new deal proposed to him by Manchester United.

Leeds supremo Massimo Cellino took in his display in the League One playoff final for Barnsley and the Whites wanted to secure the striker's signature this summer.

But the lure of Premier League football with Slaven Bilic's West Ham has been too much to resist and according to the Yorkshire Post, Fletcher will undergo a medical with the Hammers later today.

West Ham are claimed to have slapped a four-year contract on the table for Fletcher, turning his head towards London.

Given the striker is just 20 years old, West Ham will have to pay a compensation fee for his services, which is expected to come in at around the £500,000 mark.

Fletcher started off his career in the youth ranks at Bolton Wanderers before being tempted to leave for Manchester United.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Barnsley and helped the Oakwell outfit to win promotion to the Championship, edging out Millwall in the playoff final.
