Manchester United have announced the signing of winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan from German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

The Armenia international has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Old Trafford, with an option for a further year, meaning a potential stay for the 27-year-old until 2021.

He is excited about joining the Red Devils and saluted Jose Mourinho for placing trust in him by taking him to Manchester United.

Mkhitaryan explained to the club's official site: "I am very proud to join Manchester United, this move is a dream come true for me.

"I am excited to play for a club with such an illustrious history and hope to be part of it for a long time", Mkhitaryan continued, before addressing the honour he feels at the switch.

"I thank the trust the club and Jose Mourinho have put in me.

"Finally, I believe playing for such a great club honours my father’s memory, and the inspiration and drive he gave to me when I was young."

Mkhitaryan had just a year to run on his contract at Dortmund and was refusing to sign an extension as he set his sights on moving to Manchester United.

He joined the German giants in 2013 from Shakhtar Donetsk and clocked up a total of 140 appearances, with 41 goals.

Last term Mkhitaryan netted on 23 occasions and provided his team-mates with 32 assists.

He is thought to have cost €42.5m.
