Sevilla are looking to re-sign Luis Alberto from Liverpool as they aim to meet homegrown players rules for their Champions League campaign.

The attacking midfielder was sold by Sevilla to Liverpool in 2013, with the Reds paying a fee close to the £7m mark to capture the Spanish talent.

But Alberto has flopped at Anfield and has been shipped out to Spain on successive loan spells, spending time with Malaga and Deportivo La Coruna.

He has a year left on his contract with Liverpool, however is surplus to requirements at the Merseyside club.

According to Spanish daily El Correo, Sevilla are looking at re-signing Alberto, as they aim to add to the number of homegrown players in their squad.

The Spanish giants, who beat Alberto's Liverpool in the final of the Europa League last season, do not want to fall foul of UEFA's homegrown player rules in the Champions League.

Sevilla believe Alberto would not be an expensive option, given he has failed to make the grade at Anfield.

The 23-year-old featured on a regular basis for Deportivo last term, making a total of 31 appearances in all competitions for the club, with six goals scored and eight assisted.
