Chelsea and Everton have been given hope on doing a deal to sign defender Kalidou Koulibaly, as he is continuing to refuse to sign a new contract with Napoli.

The former Racing Genk centre-back was a key figure in Napoli finishing second in Serie A last season and earlier this summer explained he did not feel his salary was in line with his status at the club.

But Napoli are making no progress in their efforts to convince Koulibaly to sign a new deal as, according to Italian radio station Radio Crc, the defender is refusing to sign the Italian club's latest offer of €1.5m per year.

Chelsea have been chasing Koulibaly for much of the summer, but of late Everton have forced their way into the picture.

And the presence of the English clubs may be causing the defender to hold off agreeing a new deal with Napoli, as the Premier League pair can offer far more lucrative personal terms.
