Former Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen is ready to join West Ham United if they can reach an agreement with Barcelona, although he could prefer a switch to Liverpool if they enter the fray.

Barcelona are ready to sell Vermaelen this summer and have slapped an asking price of €12m on the Belgian defender's head.

Roma have made a move for the centre-back, but their bid has been deemed not good enough and according to Catalan daily Sport, Barcelona are waiting for West Ham to firm up their interest.

Vermaelen favours a return to the Premier League and would happily join the Hammers.

However, it is claimed that could change if either Liverpool or Inter enter the race, at which point Vermaelen could prefer to head to either Anfield or the San Siro.
