Everton are rivalling Sunderland for the signature of midfielder Yann M'Vila, who has just returned to Russian Premier League side Rubin Kazan.

M'Vila was on loan at Sunderland from Rubin Kazan last season, but in the absence of a permanent deal he has now headed back to the Russian side.

The midfielder did enough for Sunderland to want to hold onto him though and they have offered him a four-year contract, according to French outlet Foot Mercato.

But the Black Cats do not have a free run at M'Vila as it is claimed Everton have now entered the race for his signature.

M'Vila is thought to be keen to stay in the Premier League, but even though Everton and Sunderland are ready to grant his wish, a move back to England may not be so simple.

Indeed, Rubin Kazan rate the Frenchman highly and are giving serious thought to trying to keep hold of him, with the aim being to build a team around the midfielder.

M'Vila however only has a year left to run on his contract with the Russian club, meaning he could push for the exit door this summer, leaving Rubin Kazan with a tough decision to make.
