Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has indicated that goalkeeper Marco Silvestri could be on his way out of the club this summer.

The 25-year-old Italian was the club’s first choice goalkeeper last season under Steve Evans and was expected to continue in goal for Monk’s team in the upcoming campaign.

However, after Rob Green joined the club last week on a free transfer, it became apparent that Silvestri might not be part of the new Leeds manager’s plans for the future.

He recently left their training camp in Ireland to head home to train with the Under-21s and it has been suggested that Silvestri has been asked to find a new club this summer.

Monk revealed that he spoke to Silvestri about his future at the club and is confident that he has been able to convey the reasons behind his decision to push the Italian out of the squad.

The Leeds boss feels it is important that a manager gets his own squad and is clear with his decision making.

On Silvestri leaving the training base in Ireland, Monk told LUTV: “I had a chat [with him].

“My job as a manager was to assess what we had and to assess the squad and make decisions.

“I spoke to Marco, he knows the reason behind what I am doing and he is fine.

"You never write off a player but there are certain things I want to rectify, and I need a squad that I want and I feel are competitive.

“Those are decisions you make as manager; sometimes you make tough decisions and you have to be very clear with that.”

Silvestri joined Leeds from Chievo in 2014, and has made 92 appearances for the Whites over the course of the last two seasons.
