Everton are ready to offer a bumper contract to Belgium midfielder and Napoli target Axel Witsel to lure him to Goodison Park this summer.

Witsel is expected to leave Zenit Saint Petersburg this summer, and Napoli and Everton are currently the top contenders to land the Belgium international in the current transfer window.

The Premier League’s financial muscle made Everton early favourites to sign the 27-year-old, but negotiations between the player’s representatives and the club stalled last week.

And it gave an opportunity to Napoli reopen talks over a proposed move for Witsel, and it has been suggested that his agent is expected to meet the player to convince him to move to Italy.

However, Everton are out of the chase yet, and according to Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset, the club are willing to offer a contract worth €7m per season to the player to lure him to England.

Napoli have already agreed a fee worth €22m with Zenit for the midfielder, but Everton are confident that they can the deal over the line if they reach an agreement with Witsel.

On the other hand the Serie A outfit are keen to use the lure of Champions League football to beat off competition from Everton for the midfielder’s signature.
