Roberto Di Matteo wants to add Sven Hubscher to his coaching staff at Aston Villa, but the 37-year-old's priority is remaining at current club Schalke if possible.

Hubscher worked alongside Di Matteo at Schalke and left an impression on the former Chelsea boss, who is now keen to see him at Villa Park, as he shapes up to try and lead the club back to the Premier League.

Schalke have just brought in Markus Weinzierl as coach and he has in turn brought in his own trusted assistant from Augsburg.

Hubscher, who is without a role at Schalke, has a year left to run on his contract at the club and is due to meeting sporting director Christian Heidel in the coming days to resolve his future.

"If I could stay at Schalke, I would do", the coach explained honestly to German daily WAZ.
