Leeds United are showing interest in Bari centre-back Valerio Di Cesare, as they look to add another defender to the ranks.

The Yorkshire giants were pushing to sign free agent Joel Ekstrand, however concerns about the Swedish centre-back's medical results following a cruciate knee ligament injury suffered with Watford in March 2015, saw the deal called off.

Ekstrand is claimed to have been offered a pay-as-you-play contract, but is unlikely to take it as he has other options.

Now, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Leeds have another centre-back in their sights in the shape of Di Cesare.

Leeds are looking to establish the availability of the Bari man, who at 33 years old is an experienced performer.

Di Cesare would not be completely new to English football as he turned out for Chelsea in the club's youth ranks, though did not make a senior appearance and returned to Italy in 2003.

The centre-back has had notable spells with Vicenza, Torino and Brescia, in addition to Bari.
