Rangers boss Mark Warburton is confident that the Gers will be able to agree contract extension deals with right-back James Tavernier and striker Martyn Waghorn.

The duo, who were key men in the Gers winning the Scottish Championship title with ease last season and also reaching the final of the Scottish Cup, have knocked back an initial offer put to them by Rangers.

Talks between their representatives and the Ibrox club are continuing, with the pair being under contract with the club until the summer of 2018.

Warburton and his assistant David Weir recently extended their own contracts with Rangers, penning deals until 2019, and the English boss has every confidence that Tavernier and Waghorn will also eventually put pen to paper.

The former Brentford boss feels the pair are settled in Glasgow and committed to the club for the long haul, which means they will sign new deals.

"I've every confidence. They love being here. It was a big move to come here", Warburton was quoted as saying by the Herald Scotland.

"They are committed, and their families are in schools and their partners are settled. They are committed to Glasgow Rangers.

"They love their time here. I'm disappointed for them that they are getting negativity because they don't deserve it. They've shown how much it means to play for Glasgow Rangers and that won't change.

"They've got two years still to run on their contracts. They got 43 goals between them last season.

"Their contribution was clear and they know how it works. They have been given a stage here to flourish. They have responded to our supporters", the Rangers boss added.

The new season with hand Tavernier and Waghorn their first taste of life in Scottish football's top flight, following Rangers' promotion last season.

Warburton's men kick off the campaign this weekend by playing Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup.
