Mario Gotze is joining Borussia Dortmund from Bayern Munich for €28m, ending the transfer saga around the attacking midfielder, who has been linked with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The Germany international has fallen out of favour at the Allianz Arena and Bayern Munich have no intention of renewing his contract, which has just a year left to run.

He joined Bayern Munich from Borussia Dortmund and now, according to German magazine Sport Bild, a deal has been done for him to return.

Gotze will cost the Ruhr giants a fee of €28m and will put pen to paper on a contract running until 2021.

He had recently emerged as a target for Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham, while there was also talk of a reunion with former Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

But Gotze is choosing to go back to the Ruhr giants.

His arrival will provide a welcome boost for Borussia Dortmund, who have already notably lost defender Mats Hummels and midfielders Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Ilkay Gundogan in the summer transfer window.
