Chelsea are making a decisive move to persuade Roma to sell defender Kostas Manolas, who has also been linked with Arsenal this summer.

New Blues boss Antonio Conte is desperate to add another central defender to the ranks at Stamford Bridge, but has so far come up short, failing to tempt Napoli into selling Kalidou Koulibaly.

Now Conte has switched his attention to Manolas and according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, the Blues have opened talks with Roma to try to convince them to sell the Greek international.

Chelsea are, it is claimed, preparing to make a bid of €32m for Manolas.

But whether the Giallorossi will be prepared to sell such a consistent performer remains to be seen.

Arsenal have been linked with wanting Manolas at the Emirates Stadium, but it was recently suggested they have little chance of doing a deal at present for the former Olympiacos man.

Meanwhile, it was claimed earlier this summer that Roma knocked back a bid from Manchester United for Manolas and instantly started preparing a new contract for the defender.
